Quick Update from Panama City!

posted May 27, 2010, 7:35 AM by Paul Gareau
We finally arrived in Panama City a couple days ago. This is about as far as a cyclist can go before the road ends and the infamous Darien Gap begins. Amazingly, it is the only section of the whole route where there are no roads, so the only options are to fly or take a boat to Colombia. Most boats spend some time exploring the San Blas Islands, meeting the local Kuna people, and snorkeling, which sounds much better than flying over it all. The only thing we have to do now is find a boat to take, which isn't as easy as one would think.

In addition to searching for a boat, we (Matt, Greg and I) have gone to the Miraflores locks (part of the Panama Canal) and have taken advantage of the stores in the city to get some supplies for South America. I've also been planning the next part of the trip, and I'm incredibly excited to get into the Andes and into cooler temperatures. Yes, I've even been working on my blog too - it's coming folks...

Hasta luego.
